College Bound Scholarships

Every year, FMS counselors work hard signing up 7th and 8th grade students that qualify for the state’s College Bound Scholarship program. The state combines this scholarship with other state financial aid to cover tuition to eligible state institutions, some fees, and a small book allowance based on family income. This is a great opportunity for so many of our students who may have thought college was financially out of reach for them. For many students, signing up for College Bound is the first step in their pathway towards a college education and career readiness.

Last week, Fairhaven’s counseling team received an award from Governor Jay Inslee for their “commitment to the College Board Scholarship program…”. In a letter, he congratulated the school for our “exemplary performance” in signing up students for this successful program. Fairhaven’s success places FMS as one of the top performing schools in the state by achieving a sign-up rate that is greater than the state average.

If you get a chance, congratulate our counseling team: Angie Penner, Beth Bacon, and Laura Davis. Mrs. Penner deserves a special call out for being in charge of Fairhaven’s Scholarship work; we would not have been recognized if not for her dedication and work for our students and community.
