In Mr. Nuckolls’ 8th grade Language Arts classes, the students participated in the First Annual Nuckollhead Book Trailer Festival. Students were commissioned to answer the guiding question of “How will you create an intriguing book trailer so that someone wants to read your book?” In order to do this, they first selected key scenes from the story (no spoilers!), analyzed other Hollywood trailers to learn specific film techniques, and applied the film techniques  during the story-boarding phase of the project. After two weeks of filming and editing, students submitted their trailers for voting. For each book (The Giver, Fahrenheit 451, The Knife of Never Letting Go, and Ender’s Game), there were between 10 -18 trailers. Students viewed and voted only on the same book which they had read and produced a trailer for- thus keeping the focus on accuracy to text with no spoilers.

1st place prize won their names engraved on the Nuckollhead Trophy

1st and 2nd place won the chance for their trailers to be shown at the Pickford for a WWU hosted event.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place won the chance for their trailers to be posted on the school website.
